Overview
Learn how to use different search options in order to find the document you need.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Advanced search
The Advanced Search option provides flexibility in order to search for a document, whether by the title of the document or the contents. This can be done via the Search navigation (1), the search box (2) and the Documents tab (3):
Advanced filters
The filters can be used to narrow the results and include options to search the document title and/or content, specific parties, firm's authors, date the document was created and/or modified, particular file type/s, and matter types:
Note: The highlighted yellow text shows the search criteria as appearing within a document's content.
Boolean searches
These searches use a combination of keywords to organise and refine your searches. They produce more accurate and relevant results. There are three main Boolean operators (AND, OR, and NOT) and the below table explains their functionality:
Operator | What it does | Example |
AND | Return results that match on BOTH connected terms/phrases | apples AND oranges |
OR | Return results that match on EITHER of the terms/phrases | apples OR oranges |
NOT | Removes results that contain | apples NOT oranges |
* | Allows wildcard matching | app* |
( ) | Allows term/phrase grouping when using multiple operators | apples AND (oranges OR bananas) |
“ “ | Indicates an exact match is required for the containing phrase | “apple banana” |
Note: Bold formatting added for emphasis.
