Load on Demand (LOD) Implementation

The following changes will only apply to our clients who went live on EvolveGo before 01 May 2024.

Overview

Previously, all data would download during the login process, which could lead to long wait times, especially for firms with large datasets. With LOD, data such as matter summaries, contacts, tasks, and events will only download when needed. For example, when a user logs in, instead of downloading all matters, the system will only load the first 50 matter summaries as needed. 

Key Changes

1. Changes to Offline Functionality:

• Limited Offline Access: The shift to LOD means that most data will require an internet connection to be accessed. Only the 15 most recently accessed matters will be available offline. Users can still create new matters while offline, and these will be stored locally until an internet connection is restored.
• Trade-off for Performance: While the system will no longer support full offline access, the trade-off is a significant boost in performance when the user is online, making the system faster and more responsive.

2. Redesign of Matters and Contacts Lists:

• Pagination for Large Lists: To manage large datasets more effectively, infinite scrolling has been replaced with pagination. This allows for faster loading times and improved performance when dealing with extensive lists of matters and contacts.
• Customization of Views: Users will have the option to reconfigure their initial views after enabling LOD, including the ability to drag and drop column headers to reorder columns or right-click to show and hide columns.
• Removed Features: Some features, such as the "Settlement Date" column in the matters list and the "Matter Stages" widget, have been removed. Users can access similar data through reports or alternative widgets that are being developed.

3. Enhanced Search Capabilities:

• Server-Side Searches: All searches for matters, leads, and contacts will now be conducted server-side, requiring an internet connection. The search engine has been upgraded to a new elastic search system, providing more accurate and faster search results based on keyword relevance.
• Search Functionality Changes: While the search is more powerful, users may notice differences in how results are sorted and displayed. The option to change the sort order has been removed to streamline the search process.

4. Specific Updates for the Mobile App:

• LOD in Mobile App: Similar to the desktop version, the mobile app now uses the LOD model, downloading matter and contact data only as needed. Matters are displayed 100 at a time using infinite scrolling.
• Ongoing Fixes: Some features, such as the sorting of contacts by last name and the display of matter descriptions in headers, are currently being refined and will be updated in future releases.

User Responsibilities

User Actions for Updates: Users need to ensure that EvolveGo is completely logged out and all Microsoft Office applications are closed at the end of the day for the LOD feature to be automatically applied upon your next login.
