This guide will take you through the setting up of Period Date Reporting, the closing of periods and how to re-open a period.

Setting Up Period Date Reporting

To set up Period Date Reporting use the following steps:

1. Select Settings from the navigation menu.


2. Then select Firm Settings.


3. In the Accounting section select Posting Period.


4. Type or use the calendar to enter the first day of the current open period into the Date field. For example to open the July period enter the date as 01/07/2023.



5. Click Save in the bottom right of the screen.

You will now be able to report on a period date basis.


Closing a Period

Once you have completed your month end process, to close the current period use the following steps:


1. Select Settings from the navigation menu.

2. Then select Firm Settings.



3. In the Accounting section go to Posting Period.



4. Type or use the calendar to enter the first day of the new period into the Date field. For example to close the July period and open a new August period enter the date as 01/08/2023.



5. Click Save in the bottom right of the screen.

The period prior to 1st August will now be closed and transactions can no longer be posted to it.



Re-Opening a Closed Period

To re-open a previously closed period for posting journal transactions, use the following steps:

1. Select Settings from the navigation menu.

2. Then select Firm Settings.

3. In the Accounting section select Posting Period.



4. Type or use the calendar to enter the first day of the previously closed period into the Date field. For example to re-open the closed July period enter the date as 01/07/2023.



5. Click Save in the bottom right of the screen.



6. A warning message will appear, as below, suggesting that previous period's should only be re-opened to only post General Ledger transactions, not matter related transactions and closed again as quickly as possible. To continue to re-open the period click Change posting date.
